Our Story

“To Know and Follow Jesus Together”

Our vision leads our actions. We seek to draw together believers of Jesus from many denominations who share the desire to worship him, to grow, and to serve others together.

The Union Church of San Salvador (UCSS) traces its beginning to 1942 when Earl and Inez Terzian, a couple from the United States, provided Sunday School to their children at home. Soon, other families asked to join them and interest developed in establishing an English-speaking congregation. The first worship service was held on July 7, 1946.

In 1974, work began on the church's permanent home in Colonia La Mascota. The first service was held there on May 11, 1975. From the time of its organization to the present, thousands of people from all over the world have been a part of the Union Church's community of faith. The UCSS has been served by 21 pastors from a variety of denominations.

Our Sunday morning service seeks to include 6 key elements:

YOU

No matter where you’ve been or what you have done, you matter to God and to us. We are glad you are here! the only thing we ask of you: It’s simple: relax and connect with God.

Your Children

We pray that this time is the best time of your child’s week. There is a Nursery for children age birth to three downstairs staffed with caring people who want to provide a loving environment for your child while you, as parents are able to enjoy the service. There are also classes for children to explore God’s Word led by volunteers who enjoy pouring into your children: Kinder through 1st grade, Grades 2-5 and youth (grades 6-12). Children are dismissed after our time of worship together. Classes are held in the classrooms down the upstairs hallway.

The Lord’s Supper

We have communion on the first Sunday of each month. Jesus gave us this memorial to remind us of the price He paid for our sins- death on the cross. ALL Christians are invited to eat the bread and drink the juice to remember Jesus’ sacrifice of body and blood. As the bread and juice are passed, please hold, and we will partake together.

Offering

As a body of believers, we take up an offering each week. This offering is a part of our grateful worship as Christ followers. If you are a guest today, we do not expect you to give. Your presence is your gift to us.

Fellowship

We love to have time to catch up with each other and get to know our visitors. Please join us immediately after church in the garden area for a time of refreshments and fellowship.

What’s next?

Every time someone encounters Jesus, he or she has a decision to make- to follow Him or ignore Him. He offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe. If you are feeling led to a further discussion; please speak to Gary, our pastor after service. We’d love to support you on your journey to knowing Jesus.
